Classic Car Insurance in North Carolina

Buying Insurance for a Classic Car is very different than buying insurance for your family car.

First, there are restrictions on what qualifies a car as a “classic.”

• Your vehicle must be a 1979 model year or older.
• The vehicle is not your primary means of transportation.
• Vehicle is driven or transported to shows, meets exhibitions or club activities.
• Parades are another acceptable use.
• Vehicle is stored in an enclosed and locked facility.

What to look for in an insurance company for your Classic?

• How flexible is the mileage restriction? Can you drive your Classic on weekends or vacations? Is there a strict mileage limit you must not exceed? Keep in mind that some Classics are almost never driven, while other owners drive their classics regularly.
• How much coverage can you get for your vehicle? A modern car has very defined ways to determine the value within a few hundred dollars for determining the replacement cost.

While many Classic vehicles have well-established guidelines regarding replacement costs, you will need to do some research to determine how much coverage to ask for. Keep in mind that an insurance adjuster may not appraise your vehicle the same way. Often, the cost of restoring a Classic car is far in excess of the actual market value of that car, so you may not be able to recover all that you have personally invested in your vehicle.
